A light heavyweight bout between former UFC champion Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader has been added to the upcoming UFC on FOX 4 event for August.
Machida hasn’t competed since his loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones by second-round submission at UFC 140 in December. After starting his career 16-0, he is 1-3 in his last four fights.
Bader is coming off a win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 144 in February. The Ultimate Fighter 8 winner is currently on a two-fight winning streak.
Also on the card is a middleweight war between Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann bout and a lightweight bout between Terry Etim vs. Joe Lauzon.
Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has stated in the past that he’d like to move back to the middleweight division. He is getting his wish, and will be taking on Ed Herman at UFC 150.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the news via his personal Twitter account:
“UFC 150 Sat Aug 11 Denver, CO. Middleweight Bout Ed Herman VS Jake Shields. I like that fight!”
Shields is coming off a win over Yoshihiro Akiyama in February at UFC 144. He was 2-2 at 170 lbs in the UFC, but clearly felt that his skills were better suited for 185.
Herman has been on a role since coning back from injury, stopping three straight opponents. His last win came over Clifford Starks at UFC 143.
With heavyweight #1 contender Alistair Overeem failing a surprise drug test, the main event fight against Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight championship at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is likely off.
The obvious choice to replace Overeem was Frank Mir, until UFC president Dana White confirmed that his fight against Cain Velasquez was still on.
Fans are dying to see a certain “Super Samoan” slide right into the void. Mark Hunt also has a rally going for him on Twitter. A few of the more defiant fans have even suggested Dan Henderson.
Henderson even said on Twitter he would accept the match-up if it was offered.
